• 2nd Annual Avocado Showdown

With the success and popularity of last year’s culinary competition, Avocados from Mexico celebrated the return of the Avoshowdown with bigger prizes, including roundtrip travels to a Mexican all-inclusive resort, courtesy of Club Med Canada. This time, the competition was open to the public so we saw a whole range of entries and experiments! Our own Angie Quaale was again a guest judge along with Crystal Allen, culinary nutritional expert & creative director Hello Creative Family; Cassandra Anderton; food writer & editor, Good Life Vancouver; Rebecca Coleman, instructor & food blogger, Cooking By Laptop; Bosco Mo, food blogger & host, Eatalreadeee & Fairchild Radio; and Jim Tobler, editor of Montecristo Magazine.

This year’s competing categories were:
  • Savoury Dish (voted by judges)
  • Dessert/Pastry (voted by judges)
  • Foodie’s Choice (voted by entrants and spectators)

The grand prize went to Caitlyn Connolly for her dish, Cannoli Santo. A recent graduate of Northwest Culinary Academy, this is the second year in a row that one of their students has taken home top prize.
