Thompson began his cooking career age 14 at his family’s Vietnamese restaurant in Langley, BC by washing dishes and helping out with routine kitchen tasks. In 2002 Thompson went on to obtain a Bachelor of Music degree in classical guitar performance and spent several years performing in Western Canada. Four years later, he received a Bachelor of Education and began teaching and eventually would take a two-year hiatus from both cooking and teaching to pursue a musical dream that culminated in a Grammy Award nomination in 2010.
After an 8-month food exploration trip, Thompson decided to pursue cooking seriously and in 2007 enrolled at Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts (PICA), and received a diploma in culinary arts and his level 2 Wine and Spirit Education Trust designation. From 2008 to present, Chef Thompson has worked at several prestigious restaurants in Vancouver namely Bishop’s, Il Giardino, Nu, Westwood Plateau Golf and Country Club and former teaching chef instructor. Thompson lives in the close-knit community of Port Moody with his lovely wife Dana and two darling children.
