Picnics are hands down, one of our favourite ways to enjoy summer. Pop down to Derby Reach, grab a table riverside & watch the tugs go by. Pull up a lawn chair under a shade tree in your own backyard and enjoy a great meal! Pass the lemonade!
These Gourmet to Go meals make the perfect weeknight picnic, enjoy a casual dinner on the deck with friends, a great addition to your weekend meals at the cottage or instantly turn your camping into glamping. So much better than restaurant take-out and SO easy. Your package will include compostable plates, cutlery & napkins and an ice pack to keep things cool until you get to your destination. The only thing you need to add is your favourite beverage.

Born in Firenze, Italy in 1919, the Negroni bears the name of Count Camillo Negroni who mixed his Italian heritage with a fondness for gin acquired in London to create one of the world’s most perfect cocktails. Herb & Lou’s version integrates Campari’s bitter aroma of herbs and spicy cherry-orange flavour with the sweet tang of London Dry Gin. That convergence is amplified, enriched and modernized by a strong focus on the fundamental Wormwood characteristics of Torino (red) vermouth.
Ingredients: Water, invert sugar, chrystalline fructose, natural flavours, fruit and vegetable juice for colour, citric acid, beta-carotene for colour, Wormwood powder, extract, sodium, benzoate and potassium sorbate (preservative), quinine. Contains less than 1% lemon juice.
A close friend to Herb, Cooper was often the life of the party. Many times, he would bust out and literally howl at the moon. His fierce loyalty to Herb was apparent and he may have been at every party Herb & Lou threw. He had a mane of messy reddish brown hair and if he wasn't by Herb's side or sniffing around for treats, you'd find him curled up sleeping off the fun - somewhere.
Blood Oranges develop their signature colour during cool, Sicilian fall and winter nights. Their hue ranges from a streaked ruby blush to a deep maroon colour. Known locally as Arancia Rossa di Sicilia, this beautiful fruit is typically less acidic and sweeter than other oranges. Their raspberry-like tartness acts as the perfect base in Herb & Lou’s take on the original Whiskey Cocktail, with classic ingredients like Brandied Cherries and Artisanal Bitters. The addition of extracted Ginger adds a unique complexity to this time-honoured favorite which is never sweet, always smart. We bet you can’t drink just one.

One of the quirkiest things about Cecile was that she called everything with alcohol in it “hooch.” It didn’t matter whether it was beer, wine or a cocktail, it was all hooch! Cecile always seemed to be flying off to somewhere and yet still found time to be one of the highlights of Herb & Lou’s parties. With her electric smile and bohemian air, we suspect (but can’t confirm) that Herb & Lou both had a bit of a crush on Cecile – just don’t tell our grandmothers. There are hieroglyphs in ancient Egypt (over 5,000 years old) depicting Watermelons. Wild Cucumbers showed up in India about 4,000 years ago and the cultivated varieties have surfaced all over the globe. Cucumber and Watermelon simply belong together and are actually related to each other in the gourd family Cucurbitaceae. The sweet flavour of Watermelon is the perfect counterpoint to the green, grassy astringency and crispness of Cucumbers. Thyme warms the fruits while the Clover Honey’s sweet flowery flavour rounds-out this cocktail. With its own origins in hot climates, Tequila helps this blend refreshingly delight, far surpassing a mere Margarita.

Lou saved Clyde’s life during the war and ever since, Clyde went everywhere that Lou did. Clyde had a quiet confidence and always seemed to live in the moment without a care in the world. Having grown up on a peach farm in Georgia, Clyde had a charming southern drawl and would call every woman "his peach". ‘The Clyde’ was one of Herb & Lou’s earliest concoctions and was a tribute to Clyde’s friendship. According to family lore, it captures his quiet sophistication perfectly. Having its heyday in the 1930’s at the storied Russian Tea Room in Manhattan, the first Vodka-Based cocktail to make it in the United States was the Gypsy Queen. Originally, this cocktail utilized Benedictine, a liqueur made of herbs, roots and sugar and based on a recipe by Benedictine Monks in the 15th Century. Here, those raw herbs have been coupled with a touch of Peach, in lieu of sugar. Hand-crafted bitters and a slight citrus zest elevate the Vodka, and your experience, to tantalizing, exciting and surprising heights. The Clyde will make you wonder why you ever settled for cranberry juice or club soda.
