It's back! Our annual 12 days of recipes featuring our favourite gift ideas and local producers to help you check off everyone on your list. This year, we're adding a contest to our series where you can win one of the feature products by responding to a question and sharing the contest with your friends and family on social media!
This series pairs a gift idea with a great recipe that you could write in a card to inspire your gift recipient or for you to try out for your own table this season!
On the third day of recipes, we suggest you try making our Chocolate Almond Toffee (see recipe here). Dutch process chocolate or Dutched chocolate is chocolate that has been treated with an alkalizing agent to modify its colour and give it a milder taste compared to "natural cocoa". It is used in everything from ice cream, to hot cocoa. It's a must have for the serious baker!
Today's recipe also calls for some Marcona Almonds. Simply write today's recipe in a card and pick up a package of Marcona Almonds (what we call "the queen of Almonds") for a lovely gift to the baker or nut fanatic in your life!
We're giving away a free tin of Dutched cocoa and a package of Marcona Almonds for in-store pick-up to one special customer who fills out today's sweepstakes form and answers the question:
Marcona almonds are really special and make a BIG flavour difference in this recipe - have you ever cooked or baked with them before?
We will be drawing our winner* at 6PM on December 6th, 2019 and will announce it on Facebook! You can get extra entries into the contest by referring your friends to our daily recipe and product feature on social media and by email. Good luck!

On the second day of recipes, we suggest you try making our Panettone Egg Nog Bread Pudding Muffins (see recipe here). Panettone is an Italian sweet bread loaf from Milan that makes a lovely holiday gift for a teacher, a party host or hostess or contribution to the spread at a New Year's party.
Today's recipe also calls for some Whole Nutmeg. Simply write today's recipe in a card and pick up a package of Whole Nutmeg (and a grinder or microplane grater) for a lovely gift to the baker in your life!
We're giving away a free box of Panettone and Whole Nutmeg for in-store pick-up to one special customer who fills out today's sweepstakes form and answers the question:
Freshly grated nutmeg makes such a difference in recipes, where else do you use nutmeg in your cooking?

What can you do with Mulling Spice? Our mulling spice is a fragrant mix of Star Anise, Cinnamon, All Spice, Cloves, Candied Ginger, Cranberries and Black Pepper. Classically it is used to make mulled wine or cider BUT we love to infuse some maple syrup & pour it over fresh waffles on Christmas morning!
Mulled Maple Syrup
Place 2 cups of maple syrup in a small sauce pot. Turn heat on low. Add 2 tablespoons of the mulling spice to the pot. Add a generous piece fresh orange rind, cut with a vegetable peeler and simmer for 15 minutes. Strain off the spices and transfer to a serving pitcher – serve warm.
Store in refrigerator up to 2 weeks. Serve warm with pancakes or waffles.
Mulled Cider
Place ¼ cup of the mulling spice, orange peel, and lemon peel in a medium saucepan. Pour in maple syrup and apple juice, then bring to almost a boil. Reduce the heat to its lowest setting and simmer for 30 minutes. Remove from heat, stir in the rum - strain and serve in mugs.
